How the Debit System Works

On-line Debit

An on-line debit transaction works like an ATM transaction. It’s an immediate electronic transfer of money from the consumer’s account to the merchant’s account, requiring the consumer to enter a PIN at the store’s POS terminal. The request goes over a set of networks different from a credit card or off-line debit transaction.

Off-line Debit

Off-line debit card transactions require a signature for authorization. Although not credit cards, they are branded with a Visa or MasterCard logo and can be used wherever those cards are accepted. Off-line debit cards allow both off-line and on-line transactions; transactions that require a signature are processed through the same networks -- and incur similar “interchange” transaction fees -- as credit cards.

External PinPad for Nurit 2080 or Tranz 330 The PinPad is necessary to process debit and ATM cards. It plugs into the Nurit 2080 or Tranz 330 terminals. As the retail world enters the "electronic wallet" era, debit cards are now being used more for payment at point-of-sale.
